Yokogawa Acquires Cloud-Based Data Service Provider Industrial Evolution Inc.

In a move that strengthens its ability to provide Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions to the process industries, Tokyo-based Yokogawa Electric Corp. (Yokogawa Corporation of America) has acquired Industrial Evolution Inc. (Phoenix), a provider of cloud-based plant data-sharing services. Expanding this type of advanced solutions business in the industrial automation and control field is one of the main strategies set out in Yokogawa’s “Transformation 2017” mid-term business plan.

Yokogawa Venture Group Inc. (Wilmington, Newcastle, DE), a wholly owned Yokogawa subsidiary established for the purpose of executing strategic mergers and acquisitions in the industrial automation and control arena, carried out the transaction.

About Industrial Evolution’s DaaS technology
Industrial Evoloution’s cloud-based Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) technology collects real-time process data from devices and systems at a variety of industrial sites and supplies it in a direct or customized form to the companies that operate such facilities, as well as to their customers and vendors. Although Yokogawa has long offered advanced packaged software solutions that help organizations improve productivity, safety, and energy efficiency, and optimize plant utilization, with cloud-based service as a core offering it will now be able to provide even more value to its global customer base.

According to Yokogawa, Industrial Evolution’s DaaS is capable of retrieving data from firewall-protected systems and securely sharing it with authorized users via website or mobile access. Typical applications include, to name a few, sharing data on oil- and gas-field operations among authorized users at multiple sites, and sharing real-time data with investors in facilities that are operated by third parties.

Editor’s Note: Headquartered in Sugar Land, TX, Yokogawa Corporation of America is the North American Division of Yokogawa Electric’s global network of 25 manufacturing facilities and four regional project-engineering centers. For more information, CLICK HERE.
