Screen Shot 2016-02-26 at 7.56.57 AMSiemens has expanded its line of 2nd-generation HMI Mobile Panels with the SIMATIC HMI KTP400F. The product incorporates an easy-to-read and operate 4-in. widescreen display that features a fully-dimmable, 16-million-color display with a 16:9 aspect ratio to ensure clear and detailed images.

Other notable features include a unique illuminated emergency stop button, and flexible options to integrate into safety applications. The device variant with the emergency STOP button at the top and enabling switch in the rear provides flexible safety solution configuration. Only when the emergency STOP button is integrated with the safety circuit via the connection box is it activated, at which point it lights up red. The new device supports the analysis of safety elements using permanently wired safety relays (e.g. SIRIUS), fail-safe I/Os (e.g. SIMATIC ET 200) as well as PROFIsafe with fail-safe controllers of the SIMATIC S7 family (e.g. SIMATIC S7-1500F).

It is easily mounted to the outside of the control cabinet and wired completely on the inside. The box can be placed anywhere on the machine or in the plant, allowing for ideal positioning of the Mobile Panel connections for the user.

According to the manufacturer, this rugged IP65 operator panel can be used across a wide range of temperatures (from 0 to 45 C); is dust-tight and resistant to chemicals; offers splash-water protection; and withstands falls up to 1.2 meters.

Operability and Configuration
The feature-rich HMI KTP400F also offers combined key and touch operation. A new-style editor allows operating screens to be adapted to design requirements at the touch of a button. According to the manufacturer, the product easily integrates into the automation system via Profinet. Configuration is done through the SIMATIC WinCC engineering tool in the TIA Portal.
