Kaeser Flow Controller Separates Compressed Air Demand and Supply, Optimizes Storage and Use

Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 8.37.09 AMAccording to Kaeser Compressors (Fredericksburg, VA and Coburg, Germany), the recently released Kaeser Flow Controller (KFC) creates more effective storage by accumulating compressed air in receivers and only delivering what’s needed for production.

Available for system capacities from 250 to 18,000 scfm, the KFC responds rapidly to fluctuating demand and actively maintains constant system pressure downstream. More stable air pressure helps eliminate artificial demand and substantially reduces air losses through leaks.

With a KFC, stored compressed air can be used to satisfy air demand spikes without pressure drop at the point of use. This capability, in turn, leads to higher production rates, reduced maintenance costs, and significant energy savings.

The manufacturer notes the product can be installed easily in new or existing systems without reconfiguring existing piping.

Siemens Expands 2nd-Gen HMI Mobile Panel Line with Widescreen KTP400F

Screen Shot 2016-02-26 at 7.56.57 AMSiemens has expanded its line of 2nd-generation HMI Mobile Panels with the SIMATIC HMI KTP400F. The product incorporates an easy-to-read and operate 4-in. widescreen display that features a fully-dimmable, 16-million-color display with a 16:9 aspect ratio to ensure clear and detailed images.

Other notable features include a unique illuminated emergency stop button, and flexible options to integrate into safety applications. The device variant with the emergency STOP button at the top and enabling switch in the rear provides flexible safety solution configuration. Only when the emergency STOP button is integrated with the safety circuit via the connection box is it activated, at which point it lights up red. The new device supports the analysis of safety elements using permanently wired safety relays (e.g. SIRIUS), fail-safe I/Os (e.g. SIMATIC ET 200) as well as PROFIsafe with fail-safe controllers of the SIMATIC S7 family (e.g. SIMATIC S7-1500F).

Screen Shot 2016-02-26 at 7.58.21 AMThe product’s compact connection box requires only a third of the space of conventional boxes. It is easily mounted to the outside of the control cabinet and wired completely on the inside. The box can be placed anywhere on the machine or in the plant, allowing for ideal positioning of the Mobile Panel connections for the user.

According to the manufacturer, this rugged IP65 operator panel can be used across a wide range of temperatures (from 0 to 45 C); is dust-tight and resistant to chemicals; offers splash-water protection; and withstands falls up to 1.2 meters.

Operability and Configuration
The feature-rich HMI KTP400F also offers combined key and touch operation. A new-style editor allows operating screens to be adapted to design requirements at the touch of a button. According to the manufacturer, the product easily integrates into the automation system via Profinet. Configuration is done through the SIMATIC WinCC engineering tool in the TIA Portal.

MultiSharp Focus Technology Boosts Thermal Imaging Clarity in Fluke Ti450 Infrared Camera

Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 10.51.57 AMAccording to Fluke Corp. (Everett, WA), its new Ti450 Infrared Camera takes thermal imaging to a new level of clarity with MultiSharp Focus. An out-of-focus thermal image, the company says, could lead to misdiagnosis of a problem, potentially costing thousands of dollars. Moreover, there’s no way to correct such images once they’ve been captured, short of taking new ones.

The recently introduced Fluke Ti450 Infrared Camera solves this problem by delivering images automatically focused throughout the field of view.

The new MultiSharp Focus technology rapidly takes multiple images and combines them to produce one in-focus image. This advanced focusing capability lets users capture an automated, focused image of multiple targets at once, delivering the image clarity needed by professional thermographers and maintenance managers to produce top-quality results and avoid costly rework.

Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 10.43.11 AM

Additional features include
SuperResolution mode that increases effective image resolution to 640 x 480; a 2x and 4x digital zoom that allows an operator to zoom in on a small part of the target; and Fluke’s award winning LaserSharp Auto Focus that delivers instant focus on a single target, using a built-in laser distance meter to calculate and display the distance to the designated target with pinpoint accuracy.

The wireless Ti450 is part of the Fluke Connect system of wireless test tools that communicate via the Fluke Connect app, or Fluke Connect Assets software, a cloud-based solution that gathers measurements to provide a comprehensive view of critical equipment status.

With Fluke Connect, infrared images can be uploaded from anywhere and combined with measurement data from multiple Fluke Connect test tools to create and share comprehensive reports from the job site via email and collaborate in real time with other colleagues, increasing productivity in the field.

High-Definition Vibration Enveloping

HD Enveloping is a high-definition vibration enveloping technique for detection of early-stage gear and bearing faults. A complement to traditional vibration analysis, the method detects, at a very early stage, machine problems that are generally difficult to find in good time with conventional non-enveloping techniques. Significantly extending the planning horizon for predictive maintenance, the method is said to be a boost to maintenance efficiency. The technique can be used with existing vibration transducer installations and integrates into existing industrial infrastructures while monitoring applications in the 15,000 to 20,000 rpm range.

The unit of measurement is HD Real Peak, a scalar value expressed in decibels. Representing the true amplitude levels found in the envelope signal, HD Real Peak is the primary value to use for determining the severity of a given damage. It is also used for triggering alarms. Using order tracking and symptom enhancement, applying FFT on the signal is very useful to determine the source of the signal. Spectrums and time signals provide a snapshot of machine condition to give the maintenance department a heads-up on potential problems. Straightforward setup uses a set of predefined filters, each designed to detect damages or anomalies in different stages of development.
